High college honor

Caption: HIGH COLLEGE HONOR: Jeff Burns Jr. (c), associate publisher and senior vice president of EBONY Magazine, is congratulated by Livingstone College Board of Trustees Chairman Bishop George W. Walker, Sr., and Livingstone's Acting President Dr. Catrelia S. Hunter. Burns delivered the convocation address during Livingstone's fall convocation at Varick Auditorium on the Salisbury, NC, campus. Its theme was "Moving Forward in Servant Leadership." At the ceremony, Burns was conferred an honorary Doctor of Hummane Letters degree, which he holds. Livingstone alumnus Dr. John W. Thompson, superintendent of the Pittsburgh Public Schools, also received an honorary degree. Burns was cited for his service to the Black community, its institutions of higher learning and Livingstone College in particular. Livingstone, founded in 1879 by the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, has a full-time enrollment of 900 students on its 272-acre campus. The college is a member of the CIAA Conference.
