Du Cille, who joined the Post in 1988, received this year's prize for the photos he took for Dana Priest and Anne Hull's article "The Other Walter Reed: Soldiers Face Neglect, Frustration At Army's Top Medical Facility." The article exposed the mistreatment of wounded veterans at Walter Reed Medical Center in D.C., resulting in reform by federal officials.

A native of Kingston, Jamaica, du Cille has been a photographer since age 17. A graduate from Indiana University and Ohio University, he holds bachelor's and master's degrees in journalism.

He was awarded his first two Pulitzer Prizes in 1986 and 1988 for his work as a photographer at the Miami Herald.

The Pulitzer, awarded by Columbia University, is considered the top honor in journalism, letters, drama and music.
