Floyd Benjamin Named CEO Of Pharmaceutical Company, Akorn Inc

Floyd Benjamin Sr. recently was promoted to the post of chief executive officer of Akorn Inc., in Chicago.
Benjamin's new appointment makes him the only Black CEO of a pharmaceutical company in this country.
He has more than 25 years of technical and managerial experience in pharmaceuticals and devices including aseptic-filled and terminally sterilized injectable products.
Before taking the position at Akorn, Benjamin was president and CEO of Pasadena Research Laboratories, Inc. in San Clemente, CA, which is an Akorn affiliate.
Akorn, Inc. manufactures, markets and distributes an extensive line of therapeutic, diagnostic and surgical pharmaceutical and over-the-counter ophthalmic products. What all of Akorn's products have in common is that they are considered "niche" products with typical sales potential of $3 million or less. This company has established a $42 million "niche" in the industry.
Benjamin earned a BS in biology and an MS in microbiology from North Carolina Central University in Durham, NC.
