Strolling With A Purpose: Former major league outfielder Darryl Strawberry, his wife Charisse and their daughter Jewel, 3, take part in a three-mile Walk and rally at Lowery Park in Tampa, FL. Strawberry, an eight-time All-Star, was on hand to Support his wife, who is president Of the Tampa chapter's National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (NCADD).

The "Stepping to Recovery" event, also sponsored by the Road 2 Recovery Ministries of the Without Walls International Church, was held to raise awareness of the NCADD and the 14th annual National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month. "A lot of people don't understand the recovery and the nature of the disease and how powerfully it affects families," Strawberry, 41, was released from a Florida prison after he served 11 months of an 18-month sentence for violating charges, which stemmed from a 1999 arrest in Tampa (JET, April 28).
