Sylvia Rhone named president of Motown Records

Sylvia Rhone, former chairman/CEO of Elektra Entertainment Group, is now president of Motown Records and executive VP of Universal Records.
Rhone will have direct responsibility for the Motown label, the roster of which includes Stevie Wonder, Erykah Badu, Michael McDonald, Brian McKnight and India.Arie.
Universal Music Group (UMG) chairman/CEO Doug Morris said in a statement about Rhone's multiyear contact, "Sylvia is a first-class music executive who not only brings a unique understanding of the creative community but extensive management experience."
In her new role, Rhone will be involved in musical projects that encompass the UMG family of labels. She will report to Mel Lewinter, chairman/ CEO of Universal Motown Records Group, and to Morris.
Rhone is expected to bring new talent and a new sound to Motown.
"The Motown of old was in a different time period. People's tastes are very broad now. So we have to adapt to this time period and make sure we appeal to the consumers," she said.
