Superstar hip-hop song-stress Lauryn Hill was the big winner at the MTV Video Music Awards during its recent ceremony at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York.
Hill, who led all female artists in nominations with five, strolled away with four Moonmen statuettes.
Her video Doo Wop (That Thing) won for Best Video Of The Year, Best Female Video, Best R&B Video and Best Art Direction In A Video.
Will Smith, who earned six nominations, won for Best Male Video for his song Miami.
Sexy hip-hip song-rap trio TLC, who also earned six nominations, won an award for Best Group Video for the innovative song No Scrubs.
Rap star Jay-Z nabbed an award for Best Rap Video for his hit song Can I Get A.... The award was presented by the mothers of slain West Coast rapper Tupac Shakur and slain East Coast rapper Notorious B.I.G., Afeni Shakur and Voletta Wallace respectively.
Famed comedian-actor Chris Rock hosted the show.
