Jay-Z's New Album `The Blueprint' Remains No. 1 For Second Week

Jet, Oct 15, 2001

The Grammy Award-winning hip-hop star Jay-Z is the superman of rap music. He seems unstoppable, able to crank out a hit album under any circumstances.

His new album titled The Blueprint speaks for itself. It was the most popular album in the country for the second week in a row after selling 271,000 copies.

At JET press time, the album had sold more than 700,000 copies, certifying it gold. It's just 300,000 shy of platinum, a status Jay-Z has grown accustomed to and will surely reach in less than three weeks.

But what makes the album's success so incredible is that it was released on Sept. 11, the same day that the World Trade Center in New York City was destroyed in the terrorist attacks.

While many album releases fared poorly during that week, American record buyers still flocked to stores to purchase the latest project from talented Jay-Z.

The album was off to a red hot start with the first single release Izzo (H.O.V.A.) and its catchy follow-up tune Girls, Girls, Girls.

The Blueprint is Jay-Z's sixth album and his fourth consecutive album to debut at No. 1.

More recently the popular rapper launched his Blueprint Lounge tour. He has announced that $1 from each ticket sold on tour will be donated to the American Red Cross, Hip-Hop Has Heart and the New York Fire Department.
