Florida Memorial College receives $1 million donation

Caption: Frank Mercado-Valdes (c), president and CEO of The Heritage Networks (THN) presents a donation of $1 million to Florida Memorial College (FMC), South Florida's only historically Black institution of higher learning. He is joined by (l-r) William H. Gray III, president and CEO of the United Negro College Fund (UNCF); George Knox Esq., trustee, FMC Board & Trustees; Rosalyn Mitchell, fiancee of Mercado-Valdes; Dr. Albert E. Smith, president of FMC; Rev. Dr. A.B. Coleman, Jr., chairman of the Board of Trustees of FMC and Dr. Barbara Edwards, vice president of Institutional Advancement. The donation, designed for the establishment of a scholarship in the name of entertainers Ruby Dee and Ossie Davis as well as renovations to the school's performing arts center, is the single largest contribution ever made to the school.
