Willie L. Williams, former chief of the Los Angeles Police Department, was appointed federal security director for Hartsfield Atlanta International Airport in Atlanta by U.S. Transportation Secretary Norman Mineta. Williams was Los Angeles' police chief from 1992 to 1997 and served as commissioner of the Philadelphia Police Department.

Federal security directors will oversee security at the nation's airports.
