Bush talks with New England Patriots player Terrell Buckley (c), Patriots head coach Bill Belichick (r) and other team members during recent ceremonies to honor the Super Bowl Champions in the Rose Garden of the White House. Bush called the team "true football champs and really fine Americans." The president praised the team's character and said he was impressed by the way they took the field all together before their 20-17 Super Bowl victory over the much-favored St. Louis Rams (JET, Feb. 18). "I thought that was a pretty good signal to America that teamwork was important; that the team is bigger than the individual," Bush said.
