Jimmy Markum, Dave Boyle and Scan Devine grew up together in a rough section of Boston. They spent their time playing stickball on the street. Twenty-five years later, the three find themselves together again, joined by another life-altering event-the murder of Jimmy's 19-year-old daughter. Now a cop, Scan is assigned to the case, and he and his partner, Whitey Powers, are assigned to unravel the seemingly senseless crime.

They must stay one step ahead of Jimmy, a man rage-driven to find his daughter's killer. Connected to the crime by a series of circumstances, Dave is forced to confront the demons of his own past. As the investigation tightens around these three friends, ominous stories unfold that revolve around friendship, family and innocence lost too soon. Directed by Clint Eastwood, this film stars Laurence Fishburne, Scan Penn, Tim Robbins, Kevin Bacon, Marcia Gay Harden and Laura Linney.
