Confidential: Credited with bringing in more than a million dollars to the Democratic election forces was Harlem Rep. Charles Rangel. The New Yorker not only canvassed corporate areas, but he increased the tempo of the Black middle-class givers, squelching rumors that minorities give little to support political causes. Had the Democrats gained control of the House, Rep. Rangel would have become the first Black chair of the Ways and Means Committee. Other key campaigners--California Rep. Maxine Waters, Black Caucus chair, and Detroit Rep. John Conyers, ranking Democrat on the Judiciary committee. Angle: This was the first time that the Black Caucus was given a national role outside of the inner cities ... One achievement Illinois Senator Carol Moseley-Braun was never praised for was her work with the Senate Banking Committee. She opened doors for many minority business people and became a cog in a valuable endeavor ... Beware of travel to Liberia!
