Janet Jackson Cancels European Tour Citing Safety Concerns After U.S. Attacks

Superstar singer Janet Jackson recently canceled her European concert tour over concerns for the safety of her entourage following terrorist attacks in the United States.

My European fans are among the most loyal and I was very excited to share this show with them," Jackson said in a statement released in London. "I have agonized over this decision. Like most people the events of Sept. 11 have troubled me enormously and I remain concerned about the foreseeable future."

The singer-actress said the risks to her large tour entourage were "too great to proceed comfortably" with the European shows, which were scheduled for next month and December in Britain, France, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Germany, Switzerland and Belgium.

"If anything happened to anyone on this tour, I could never forgive myself," she said.

Jackson may consider rescheduling the shows next year, but her agent said fans could get ticket refunds at the point of purchase. This summer, she canceled and postponed several dates on the U.S. portion of her All For You tour.

A few dates are still left on her U.S. tour, which runs through the end of the month. She has pledged to give a portion of ticket proceeds to the ClearChannel.com Relief Fund, which benefits the American Red Cross and New York and Washington, D.C., police and fire department charities.
