`Judging Amy' Co-Star Richard T. Jones Files Lawsuit To Be Released From TV Contract
Jet, Oct 22, 2001
Actor Richard T. Jones wants out of his job on the CBS drama "Judging Amy."
Jones recently filed a suit in the Los Angeles County Superior Court against 20th Century Fox Television, asking to be released from his contract.
The suit claims that Fox failed to develop his character, court services officer Bruce Van Exel, as agreed and has required him to work long days and during lunch.
Jones' attorney, Martin D. Singer of Lavely & Singer, said, "The lawsuit was filed because Mr. Jones was promised that if he became unhappy he could be written out of the series and would have to render no further services. In addition, Fox promised to release him to do significant movie roles. These promises were made to Mr. Jones both before and after he entered into his contract and have not been honored."
20th Century Fox had not seen a copy of the suit and had no comment, at JET press time.
In addition to his work on "Judging Amy," Jones is perhaps best known for his role as Slim in the 1999 movie The Wood. He's also appeared in the movies Kiss the Girls and What's Love Got To Do With It?
