Jet, Oct 22, 2001

Cable mogul Robert Johnson and the queen of talk shows Oprah Winfrey are the only Blacks listed among the 400 richest people in America in Forbes magazine.

In this annual issue of the business publication, Robert Johnson, 55, founder of Black Entertainment Television (BET), earned the No. 172 slot on the prestigious list, making him the first Black billionaire in the country.

Johnson earned his new title after he sold his 63 percent stake in the cable network to Viacom Inc. in January of this year. According to Forbes, Johnson received Viacom stock worth $1.3 billion in the trade.

Winfrey, 47, who just missed the billionaire mark, earned $900 million this year landing her in the No. 280 position.
