* KENYANS BLAZE VICTORY TRAIL IN CHICAGO: Runner Catherine Ndereba of Kenya celebrates after smashing the women's world record at the recent LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon in Chicago. She won the grueling 26.2 mile race in 2 hours, 18 minutes, 47 seconds, breaking the previous record of 2:19:46 set just a week before her victory.

Another Kenyan runner, Ben Kimondiu (No. 31), also claimed victory in Chicago, spurting past his fellow Kenyan Paul Tergat (No. 8) in the final mile to beat Tergat by 4 seconds to win the men's race in a respectable 2:08:52--an impressive feat for Kimondiu, who wasn't even expected to finish the race! Kimondiu was hired as a rabbit, a runner paid to set a fast pace for more established runners like Tergat. Ndereba and Kimondiu both earned $75,000 for taking first-place. In addition, Ndereba received a $100,000 bonus and a new car for breaking the world record.
