Jet, May 5, 2003
Morris Brown College Board of Trustees in Atlanta announced that it has accepted the resignation of President Dr. Charles E. Taylor and has named Dr. Leroy Frazier, a 17-year veteran with Morris Brown, as acting president.
"Since his appointment in September 2002, Dr. Taylor has provided valuable leadership and services to the college and we wish him well in his future endeavors," said Sixth District AME Bishop Frank C. Cummings, chairman of the board of trustees.
Taylor once pledged to solve the college's financial troubles or quit if he could not, the New York Times reported.
Morris Brown recently lost its accreditation and is about $27 million in debt.
Cummings told the Times: "We don't plan to close the school. It is our desire to bring the school back on line and make it better than it ever was."
