Rap star 50 Cent wins five World Music Awards in Monaco; Benson, Chaka Khan & Mariah also honored

Jet, Nov 3, 2003

50 Cent is still proving to naysayers that he's no small change. The rap phenom, whose career took off earlier this year with the release of his debut CD, Get Rich Or Die Tryin', which nearly went platinum just four days after its release (JET, March 3), won all five honors for which he was nominated at the recent World Music Awards (WMA) at the Sporting Club in the Principality of Monaco.

In addition to winning Best Artist, 50 Cent took home trophies for Best-Selling Rap/Hip-Hop Artist, Best-Selling Male Artist, Best-Selling R&B Artist and Best-Selling New Artist. He was presented the Best Artist honor by his close friend, sexy actress Vivica A. Fox.

Jazz great George Benson and R&B singer Chaka Khan received the Legend Award for their outstanding contributions to the music industry. This coveted honor is presented to top recording artists in recognition of their global success.

Under the High Patronage of H.S.H. Prince Albert of Monaco, the WMA honors the world's greatestselling recording artists in various categories. It is the only international music awards ceremony in the world today and the only European Music Awards show to air on primetime television throughout the world.
