Joe A. Carter, pastor of the church. Houston has been the church's minister of music for more than 40 years. Others on hand for the celebration were Houston's niece, pop-soul legend Dionne Warwick, and Mary Ida Vandross, mother of Luther Vandross. "I have given my best and I hope that my life will be a shining example for others to come," says Houston.
