PRESIDENT OF UGANDA VISITS: President Bush and first lady Laura Bush help seat the President of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni before the start of the performance of the Watoto Children's Choir of Uganda in the Rose Garden of the White House. Bush praised Museveni for his success in fighting the AIDS epidemic in Uganda.
Under his leadership, only 5 percent of Ugandans have AIDS as compared to 15 percent 10 years ago. Bush (at left) greets the members of the Watoto Children's Choir of Uganda after their performance at the White House. The choir consists of boys and girls ages 6-12 who have been orphaned by HIV/AIDS or conflict. Legislation--nearly tripling U.S. contributions to $15 billion--toward fighting AIDS in selected African and Caribbean countries was passed by Congress and recently signed into law by Bush.
