Tennis coach Traci Green is 1st Black female to head a sports team at Harvard

Jet,  July 9, 2007

Former University of Florida (UF) tennis champion Traci Green was recently hired as the head coach of Harvard University's women's tennis team.

Green, 28, who was mentored by Arthur Ashe, is the first Black woman to head any coaching staff for any Harvard University sport.

The Philadelphia native has been a force on the court since the age of 9, and her proficiency in the game led to two Intercollegiate Tennis Association national championships during her tenure on the UF championship team.

Green is the former head coach of the women's tennis team at Temple University in Philadelphia. Her coaching abilities and eye for talent are credited with the turnaround of the team.
