Sheryl Swoopes, WNBA Star, Divorcing Husband
Jet, June 7, 1999
Sheryl Swoopes, the Houston Comets guard who is one of the WNBA's biggest stars, is in the process of divorcing her husband Eric Jackson, a Houston television station reported recently.
"I'm just trying to stay focused and do what I have to do on the court because this is my job," she said on the television station KRIV.
"I think the hard part, being in the public eye, people have kept up with me and my family. My whole thing is I don't want people to look at this as a negative. I think any time you go through something like this, it's going to be hard mentally, but I'm dealing with it.
"If I don't let the situation with me and Eric distract me too much, I think this is going to be one of my best years."
Swoopes helped the Comets to its second WNBA title in the league's two seasons. She gave birth to the couple's son, Jordan Eric Jackson, in June 1997.
