Sonja Bivins, an Atlanta lawyer, was named U.S. magistrate judge in Mobile, AL, becoming the first Black federal judge in the Southern District of Alabama. Bivins, a University of Alabama law school graduate, has spent the last decade working for the law offices of McGuireWoods. As magistrate judge, Bivins will handle aspects of civil and criminal cases and can try cases.
