Chicago Stock Exchange names Valerie Jarrett Chair

The Chicago Stock Exchange (CHX) has named Valerie Jarrett its new chairman.
"I am pleased to accept the position of chairman of the Chicago Stock Ex change's Board of Governors," she said. "Having served in several other civic institutions, I'm looking forward to leading the CHX Board. The Exchange is truly a great asset to Chicago and the U.S. financial markets."
Jarrett has served on the Exchange's Board of Governors since September 2000 and is executive vice president and a managing director of the Habitat Company in Chicago.
Prior to joining the Habitat Company, Jarrett held several posts with the city of Chicago, including Mayor Richard Daley's deputy chief of staff, and commissioner of the Department of Planning and Development.
She serves on the boards of several corporate and charitable organizations, including USG Corporation, the University of Chicago Hospitals, and the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago.
She holds a law degree from the University of Michigan Law School and a bachelor's from Stanford University.
The Chicago Stock Exchange, founded in 1882, is the third most active stock exchange in terms of share and trade volume.
