During a posh ceremony in Louisiana, New Orleans Mayor Marc Morial exchanged marital vows with news anchor Michelle Miller at the St. Louis Cathedral in the French Quarter.

It was the first time in 61 years that an incumbent mayor of New Orleans wed.

The interfaith service was presided by Fr. Harry Tompson and Rev. Andrew Young.

The bride was a vision of loveliness as she was escorted down the aisle by her cousin, Ross Edward Gardner, as more than 1,300 guests looked on.

Wearing a one-of-a-kind creation by noted New Orleans designer Harold Clarke, the bride looked flawless as she strolled down the aisle wearing a form-fitting gown made of silk satin ivory organza. Beaded with thousands of iridescent sequins (imported from Paris) that were hand-sewn and embroidered pastel flowers and leaves, Miller accessorized her breathtaking gown with jewelry-one-of-a-kind designs--made of antique and iridescent crystals by Steppany Appleton for Harold Clarke.

A public reception followed the ceremony at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, named after Morial's late father, the first Black mayor of New Orleans.

Miller, a native of Los Angeles, has worked as a news anchor/reporter at New Orleans' CBS affiliate, WWL-TV, for the past five years. She holds a bachelor's degree from Howard University and a master's degree from the University of New Orleans.

Mayor Morial, a native of New Orleans, was first elected mayor of the city five years ago at the age of 35. He is chairman of the Advisory Board for the U.S. Conference of Mayors where he also serves as a member of the Board of Trustees. He chairs the committee on Arts, Culture and Recreation. Mayor Morial holds a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Pennsylvania and a law degree from Georgetown University.
