For the first time in her short, but sensational pro-tennis career, U.S. Open champion Serena Williams succeeded in doing something she had never done before.

She beat her older sister.

In a 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 victory, Serena defeated her 19-year-old sister, Venus, in the final match of the Grand Slam Cup in Munich, Germany.

"I'd never actually beaten Venus," said 18-year-old Serena, who, in addition to pocketing $900,000 for the championship, extended her winning streak to 16 matches. "I didn't know how it feels. It's kind of tough for me to take this win."

Although the two sisters showed little emotion during the match, they embraced at the net when it was over. Venus applauded Serena at the finish.

"It's a win-win situation," said Venus, who won the Grand Slam Cup: last year. "One daughter is going to win. What's the difference?"
