Jet, April 24, 2000
This year's "EBONY Night on Broadway" featured a benefit performance of the new hit Broadway musical Aida at the Palace Theatre in New York City.
The event raised funds for New York City's Hale House in Harlem.
In an arrangement with EBONY Magazine and Disney Productions, a block of tickets was reserved for special guests, including business clients, employees and friends for the special presentation of the musical.
An exclusive VIP pre-performance reception, sponsored by EBONY Magazine, was also held for guests at the Dish of Salt Restaurant in Manhattan.
The "EBONY Night on Broadway" benefit gala raised $30,000 for Hale House.
Hale House is among America's best-known independent agencies caring for babies born addicted to drugs, alcohol, tobacco and sometimes infected with HIV, the virus that causes AIDS.
It was co-founded 30 years ago in Harlem by the late Clara "Mother" Hale and her daughter, Dr. Lorraine E. Hale, psychologist, teacher and counselor, who currently runs Hale House. Dr. Hale has been at the forefront of infant-care in America for a quarter of a century.
