Macy's, Fashion Fair Cosmetics and EBONY magazine host NYC evenings of haute couture featuring the EBONY Fashion Fair
Jet, Nov 17, 2003
Customers who are accustomed to purchasing Fashion Fair Cosmetics at Macy's department stores in New York City recently got even more than they bargained for--a sample of the EBONY Fashion Fair itself!
Models from the world's largest traveling fashion show performed at Macy's Brooklyn store on Fulton Street and Macy's Herald Square on 34th Street to give customers a glimpse of the show-stopping high-fashion creations which over the years have made the EBONY Fashion Fair the most exciting fashion show in the world!
The Brooklyn store's lower level was transformed into an elegant fashion showroom with a sexy black backdrop as EBONY Fashion Fair models Nikisha Bolden, Tinika Hampton, Jaman Manns, Deonna Pinkerton and Ronnel Blackmon graced the stage wearing extravagant styles by world-famous designers such as Bob Mackie, Herve Leger, Gai Mattiolo, Thierry Mugler, Jean Louis Scherrer, Hanae Mori, Sarli and Issey Miyake.
The dazzling performance was co-emceed by former EBONY Fashion Fair commentator Audrey Smaltz and current EBONY Fashion Fair commentator Jada Jackson Collins.
Lisa Walker, regional director of Macy's special events, introduced a surprise performance by Capitol Records recording artist Javier, who performed his hit Crazy.
In addition, patrons enjoyed an hors d'oeuvres buffet on the third floor where EBONY Magazine Senior Vice-President and Associate Publisher Jeff Burns Jr. offered them a chance to get free makeovers by Fashion Fair Cosmetics beauty advisors.
They also chatted with author/radio talk show host Michael Baisden, and received unique single-line drawings by popular artist Sir Shadow.
At Macy's Herald Square on 34th Street, in the heart of the Big Apple, guests were wowed as EBONY Fashion Fair models took over the "Attitudes on 3" department. The fabulous fashions exquisitely modeled received praise from the much-appreciative audience.
Nadja Payne, special events manager for Macy's Herald Square, kicked it off by introducing a soulful performance by Universal Records recording artist Rashad, who set the mood with a wonderful set of romantic songs.
Then it was showtime! EBONY Fashion Fair commentator Jada Jackson Collins took the stage and once again the haute couture adorning the captivating models dazzled the audience.
Among the notables in attendance were Congressman Gregory M. Meeks, Lenny Green, host of "Kissing After Dark" (98.7 KISS-FM radio); Michael Stoney, founder of Down Under Gear (DUG), a line of men's lingerie; Daddy-O, an old-school rapper; T-Money, former co-host of MTV's first hip-hop show, "Yo MTV Raps"; and Glenn Toby, president and founder of the Book Bank, an organization that provides books and story time to inner-city children. Robert Roots, Jamez Williams, Akil Kamau, Mychal Sledge, Marcus Reeves, Hern Ptah and Cliff Lazarre were also present for the event.
In addition to enjoying the show, the gentlemen also were supporting the book-signing of Soul of My Brothers authors Dawn Marie Daniels and Candace Sandy, who edited essays written by more than 40 African-American men who share their experiences as sons, fathers, husbands, businessmen, musicians, writers and politicians in an oftentimes repressive American society.
Since its inception in 1958 the EBONY Fashion Fair has donated over $49 million to charitable organizations. The show travels to nearly 200 cities around the world annually with the beauty, elegance, glamour and energy of a Broadway show.
Mrs. Eunice W. Johnson is the show's producer and director.
