DREAM COME TRUE FOR DIDDY'S EX-ASSISTANT: Last year Heather Joy Thompson, Esq. told JET that her "long-term goal" was to be a U.S. Foreign Service Officer after applying for the job in April 2006. This year, Thompson's dream became a reality after she was sworn-in by Deputy Secretary of State John D. Negroponte during the 138th A100 Class swearing-in ceremony at the Harry S. Truman State Department Building in Washington, D.C. Thompson's first assignment will begin in July at the U.S. Consulate in Johannesburg, South Africa, where she will serve for two years. Last year Thompson beat out thousands of other candidates who submitted their videotaped resume on You Tube to apply for a position as Sean "Diddy" Combs' personal assistant. After narrowing the selection down to three candidates, Combs selected Thompson during an appearance on "The Oprah Winfrey Show." (JET, Dec. 10, 2007) Currently, Thompson is continuing to take classes at the State Department's Foreign Service Institute, at the George P. Shultz National Foreign Affairs Training Center, in Arlington, VA, until she relocates to South Africa. According to a State Department Web site, Foreign Service Officers are diplomats that advocate American foreign policy and business interests throughout the world. They staff embassies, consulates and diplomatic missions devoted to strengthening peace, stability and prosperity.
