SPECIAL GUEST CONDUCTOR: Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) Resident Conductor Thomas Wilkins greets Honda's ASIMO robot on stage after it conducted the orchestra's recent performance of Impossible Dream. The robot's appearance helped the DSO's effort to increase interest and access to music programs among the city's youth. Honda recently made a $1 million donation to DSO to promote its programs. ASIMO (Advanced Step in Innovative Mobility), which was programmed to mimic the actions of a conductor beforehand, was the opening act, but was no match for the dexterity and emotion of Wilkins, who later conducted Haydn's first cello concerto with famed cellist Yo-Yo Ma.
