A Baltimore group on Dec. 3 will begin construction of its $33 million downtown Reginald F. Lewis Maryland museum of African American History and Culture. Led by Atty. George L. Russell, Jr., the group already has received $30 million in state bonds, has raised more than $2 million in private contributions and gained a $5 million endorsement from the New York-based Lewis Foundation. This could be the most successful of an estimated 200 Black organizations in the country that are interested in developing museums ... Heavily involved in getting thousands of Black voters to the polls in the November election was Donna J. Brazile, the former Al Gore campaign manager and now the Democratic Party's Voting Rights Director. Highest Black Democratic contributor--BET founder Robert L. Johnson with $1 million ... Former director of the nation's Women's Bureau, Dr. Lenore Cole Alexander recently lectured a delegation of Swiss women leaders on the struggle and activities of U.S. women to gain equality. She is an adjunct professor at the University of Maryland ... Dr. Adena Williams Loston, the former president of San Jacinto College South, was named the NASA associate administrator for education. She will be responsible for guiding NASA's effort to organize and enhance education programs.
