Caption: FORD FREEDOM AWARDS: Academy Award-winning actor Morgan Freeman (l), famed actress Ruby Dee (accepting on behalf of her late husband Ossie Davis) and Black theater pioneer/director Woodie King, Jr. (r) share congratulations after all were presented the 2006 Ford Freedom Award in Detroit. The event was hosted by the Ford Motor Company and the Charles H, Wright Museum of African American History, where the affair was held. Freeman was awarded the 2006 Ford Freedom Award Scholar that honors a living individual who has demonstrated excellence in his field. Davis was awarded the 2006 Ford Freedom Award posthumously given to individuals who dedicated their lives to improving the Black community and the world. Woodie King, Jr., founder and producing director of the New Federal Theatre in New York City and National Black Touring Circuit, received a special Ford Freedom Pioneer Award for providing a path to success in the performing arts for many talented Blacks.
