SEASON-ENDING INJURY: Houston Comets' Sheryl Swoopes will miss the entire upcoming season because of an injured knee. The team physician said Swoopes will require surgical reconstruction. Swoopes, the WNBA's MVP last year, recently tore the anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee during a preseason workout.
A teammate said Swoopes was driving to the basket when she collapsed to the floor, screaming in pain. Swoopes had her best season as a pro last year. She led the league with 2.81 steals and scored her playoff high of 31 points in the game that clinched the Comets' fourth title.
