Living in a cold climate during the winter months can be cruel on every inch of the body-especially your hair. The combination of indoor heating and blistering weather conditions can leave locks deprived of moisture and screaming for attention. Fight the winter hair woes by practicing good habits for healthier hair.

Start the winter season off right by treating yourself to a day at the salon. Have your stylist wash your hair thoroughly and follow up with a deep conditioning treatment to restore any moisture that has been lost. To remove any possible damage from the summer season, have your ends trimmed or get a fresh new hair cut to flaunt for the upcoming holiday parties. Schedule regular appointments for once or twice a month for the next few months to keep hair looking in tip-top condition.

Maybe you are more of a do-it-yourself type of person or you just find the hustle and bustle of a salon annoying; then set up shop in the comfort of your own home.

Use moisturizing shampoos and apply conditioners you can leave in to protect the tresses from seasonal dryness.

When drying hair, avoid blow-drying if possible. It will only add more stress. Instead let the hair dry naturally or invest in a hooded dryer for wrapped or roller-set styles.

Wearing a wool hat is an excellent way to keep your head warm on chilly days, but it can also do a great disservice to your hair causing split ends and breakage around the hairline. When choosing a hat opt for one that has a lining inside or a grosgrain ribbon sewn along the inner edge.

Dry clean or launder the hat when needed to combat any oily buildup that may give your hairstyle a greasy look.

It's not only what you put on your hair that keeps it looking healthy, but also what you put inside your body. A diet balanced with protein, fruits, vegetables and grains will keep hair in healthy condition not only for the winter months but all year long.
