Annetta W. Nunn, a 20-year veteran of the Birmingham (AL) Police Department, made Birmingham Police history as the first Black woman promoted to deputy chief. Nunn is only the second female to hold the position. In her new position, Nunn will command the department's Patrol Division. Prior to her promotion, Nunn was a captain assigned to the Birmingham Police Department Training Academy.

Clarice L. Chambers, a member of the National School Boards Association (NSBA) Board of Directors, became the first Black female president of the NSBA. An ordained minister, Chambers also was the first Black president of the Pennsylvania School Boards Association and has served on the Harrisburg (PA) Board of Education since 1975. The NSBA represents the nation's 95,000 school board members.

Don M. Royster Sr., president of the Career Agency Division of Chicago-based United Insurance Company of America, was appointed president of United Insurance and elected to the United Board of Directors. Royster joined United in 1998 as a senior vice president. United Insurance Company of America, a division of Unitrin, Inc., offers a range of life, accident, health and property insurance.

Gina Ross, director of multicultural marketing at Buena Vista Pictures, was named vice president of marketing for Nickelodeon Movies. Ross will oversee marketing and promotion plans for the company's film releases including the upcoming Rugrats in Paris--The Movie. She also will lead Nickelodeon's network marketing team. Ross will be based on the Paramount lot in Hollywood

E. Ramone Segree, vice president for institutional advancement at Salem (MA) State College, joined Meharry Medical College in Nashville, TN, as senior vice president for institutional advancement. Segree will oversee the $125 million "Campaign for Meharry," a major development initiative, and will be responsible for alumni relations, development and major gifts, and marketing and communications.
