BEST OF THE BEST: These 27 Blacks were honored as the top Army ROTC cadets at their respective universities as participants in the recent George C. Marshall ROTC Award Seminar held on the campuses of Virginia Military Institute and Washington and Lee University in Lexington, VA. They were among a total of 263 cadets selected for the prestigious seminar and award that recognizes the most outstanding Army ROTC cadet at each university which offers ROTC across the nation.
The George C. Marshall ROTC Award honors the legacy of the late World War II Army Gen. George C. Marshall, who served as Army chief of staff and as both secretary of state and secretary of defense. The Black cadets represent all of America's historically Black colleges and universities, and many other institutions. They are listed alphabetically by their school's name: Stetson King, Alcorn State University; Sherman C. Watson Jr., Auburn University at Montgomery; Toby R. Mackall, Bowie State University; Rashad J. Fulcher, Florida A&M University; Anthony W. Gore, Georgia State University; Gabriel L. Medley, Grambling State University; Melissa A.
