Dr. PonJola Coney, head of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department at Southern Illinois University's medical school, was named dean of the School of Medicine and senior vice president for health affairs of Meharry Medical College in Nashville, TN. Coney is widely recognized for her work in reproductive medicine.
Founded in 1876, Meharry is one of the nation's largest historically Black medical institutions.
