Jet, June 3, 2002

Billy Knight was recently named the director of basketball operations of the Atlanta Hawks. "I'm very excited about joining the Hawks, and I appreciate the opportunity," said Knight. "The Hawks are an up-and-coming team in our league, and I'm excited about getting to know the players and working with the organization as we move forward." Knight, 49, was formerly the Memphis Grizzlies general manager for the last two seasons.

In his first season with the Grizzlies, the team recorded 23 wins, the most in franchise history. "Billy is well-recognized throughout the NBA for his exceptional abilities and his outstanding character," said Hawks Vice President/General Manager Pete Babcock. "He will be instrumental in all decisions we make as a staff as we will rely heavily on his many years of experience as a player and executive in professional basketball." Prior to joining the Grizzlies, Knight was a front-office executive with the Indiana Pacers for five years and he played pro basketball for 11 seasons.
