Snoop Dogg files for divorce in Los Angeles
Jet, June 14, 2004
Snoop Dogg recently decided to call his seven-year marriage quits, filing for divorce in Los Angeles Superior Court.
The rapper/actor whose real name is Calvin Broadus filed for divorce from wife Shante Broadus, citing irreconcilable differences for the dissolution. The couple have been married since 1997 and have three children: Corde, 9; Cordell, 7 and Cori, 4. His petition asks for joint custody.
The Associated Press quoted Snoop's attorney Robert Nachshin as saying: "The only thing I want to say is Mr. Broadus hopes that the divorce can be as amicable as possible."
No comments were issued by Shante Broadus' attorney.
Snoop, 32, who has become an actor who gets very good reviews, is currently appearing in the comic film Soul Plane. He also was in the hit film Bad Boys and was considered the performer who stole the show in the Ben Stiller movie Starsky & Hutch. He also was in MTV's "Doggy Fizzle Televizzle" comedy show. He has been credited with popularizing a whole new slang genre by adding lots of z's and 1's to words.
More than 10 years have passed since Snoop burst on the scene with his explicit rap lyric about street violence, sex and drugs. He even hosted porn videos.
He made big headlines when he announced two years ago that he was totally abstaining from marijuana and alcohol. He told Access Hollywood: "As you get older, you're supposed to get wiser ... I'm getting a little bit wiser, a little bit stronger. I just want to try something instead of smokin' weed and drinkin' gin. I wanted to see how I felt just to be high off life and a glass of water and it feels good."
