HELPING KATRINA VICTIMS: Rep. William Jefferson gathers with fellow members of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), Hurricane Katrina evacuees and representatives from labor, religious and non-profit groups during a press conference on Capitol Hill to introduce HR 4197: the Hurricane Katrina Recovery, Reclamation, Restoration, Reconstruction and Reunion Act of 2005.
The proposed legislation addresses two critical objectives, according to the CBC: to see the residents of the Gulf Coast, separated as a result of the storm, reunited with their families, and to provide for the recovery of the Gulf Coast region. The CBC urged President Bush and members of the House and Senate to give their support and to make a commitment to eradicate poverty.
