CBS cameraman Paul Douglas killed in Iraq

Jet, June 19, 2006

A string of recent car bombings and other attacks in Iraq have led to the deaths of several people, including CBS cameraman Paul Douglas.

Douglas, 48, was traveling in a U.S. military convoy working on a Memorial Day stow about U.S. troops in Iraq when the explosion occurred.

He was traveling with CBS soundman James Brolan, 42, who also died in the attack. Both men were accompanying CBS correspondent Kimberly Dozier, 39, who survived and was listed in critical, but stable condition at JET press time. A U.S. soldier and an Iraqi translator also traveling with the crew died in the blast and six U.S. soldiers were injured.

The explosion occurred on the same day a series of blasts killed at least 40 people in Iraq and wounded dozens more in the worst wave of violence to hit Bagdhad in days, according to recent reports.

Douglas, a British national based in London, had worked with CBS News since the early 1990s in various places such as Afghanistan, Pakistan, Rwanda and Bosnia.

He is survived by his wife, two daughters and three grandchildren.

"This is a devastating loss for CBS News," CBS News President Sean McManus said in a statement.

"Our deepest sympathy goes out to the families of Paul and James, and we are hoping and praying for a complete recovery by Kimberly."
