INTERNATIONAL PROGRAM: Florida A&M University (FAMU) is launching a new $700,000 program that will allow students who live thousands of miles away to earn a Ph.D. in educational leadership while they remain in their home country. Participating in the check presentation and kickoff of the program are FAMU President Dr.

Frederick S. Humphries (3rd, 1), (1-r) Rep. Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick, Anita Estell, vice president, Van Scoyoc and Associates, Singleton McAllister, general counsel, U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), Vivian Derryck, assistant administrator for Africa, USAID, and Brady Anderson, administrator, USAID. The university received a grant for $700,000 from the U.S. Agency for International Development that will be used to support the program that FAMU will offer at the University of Cape Coast in Ghana. The program was developed by Dr. Arthur E. Thomas (inset) consultant for program development, Florida A&M University. Not shown is Koby A. Koomson, ambassador of the Republic of Ghana who praised the program as "a major part of the recipe Africa needs to leap into the 21st century."
