Michael A. Todman, senior vice president, sales and marketing, North America for Benton Harbor, MI-based Whirlpool Corporation, was promoted to executive vice president, Whirlpool North America. In his new position, Todman, who joined Whirlpool in 1993, will lead the largest unit of the company's global enterprise. Whirlpool is the world's leading manufacturer and marketer of major home appliances.

Ann E. Young, a 19-year veteran with the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), was promoted to captain, becoming the first Black female to hold the rank. Captain Young, who is currently commanding officer of the Van Nuys Operations Support Division, has served as a lieutenant, sergeant and detective during her tenure with the LAPD. She is a graduate of the FBI National Academy for Law Enforcement.

Derek Johnson, a senior executive at AOL Time Warner, was named president of the Apollo Theater Foundation (ATF) in Harlem, NY. As president, Johnson, who has assisted with economic development efforts in Harlem, plans to expand fundraising efforts and to diversify businesses under the Apollo umbrella. The ATF was created in 1992 to preserve, restore and revitalize the historic Apollo Theater.

Ray Cunningham Jr., an Amtrak conductor and local chairperson of Local 1933, Washington, D.C., who has 33 years of rail experience, was appointed to serve as human rights coordinator for the Cleveland-based United Transportation Union (UTU). The position was created to educate and promote awareness of the advantages brought by diversity. The UTU represents 125,000 transit workers in North America.

Dr. Dianne Boardley Suber, former vice president for administrative services at Hampton University, was officially installed as the 10th president of Saint Augustine's College in Raleigh, NC. She is the first female president in the history of the 134-year-old college. Suber, who has served as a teacher and principal at several public schools, pledged to transform the historically Black college into a premier institution.
