The star comedian recently broke his own Laugh Factory endurance record of six hours and seven minutes, set in mid-April (JET, May 7), by telling jokes on stage at the Los Angeles club for six hours and 12 minutes.

"Dave was determined to keep his record because he recently heard that Dane Cook was planning on trying to break [his] record," the comedy club owner Jamie Masada told the Associated Press.

Masada said Cook held a record of three hours and 50 minutes in early April. The record had stood at two hours and 41 minutes, which was set by Richard Pryor in 1980.

The 34-year-old Chappelle told the audience he's been traveling around the world since ending his hit sketch-comedy TV show, "Chappelle's Show," on Comedy Central in 2005.
