Little Richard Is New Official Goodwill Ambassador Of Macon, GA

Jet, May 29, 2000

Rock 'n' roll legend Little Richard has returned to his hometown of Macon, GA. He's not back to live but to sing the praises of the city as he serves as its new official goodwill ambassador.

"Macon has always been a beautiful place to be," he told the Atlanta Journal. "As I've traveled all over the world, I've always lifted Macon up. I always told my audiences I was 'the beautiful Little Richard from Macon, Georgia.'"

So far the flamboyant music great's face has been plastered on billboards along highways in Macon, and he's appearing on television and in radio spots. And, according to the newspaper, when people call the Macon Convention and Visitors Bureau, while they wait for information, they hear a "wap bop aloo bop" serenade and hometown sales pitch from Little Richard.
