Brand and Francis were named co-winners of the top award. Brand, a 6-foot-8 forward, averaged 20.1 points and 10 rebounds. Francis, a 6-foot-3 guard, led all rookies in assists (6.6) and was second to Brand in scoring with 18 points; he also ranked third in steals (1.53). Each player received 58 votes from a national panel of sports media members.
