White Security Guard Confronts Pacers' Miller And Jackson At Milwaukee Mall
Jet, May 29, 2000
During the first round of the NBA playoffs in which the Indiana Pacers vanquished the Milwaukee Bucks, Pacers guards Reggie Miller and Mark Jackson were stopped by a White security guard at a downtown shopping center in Milwaukee for creating a disturbance as fans crowded around the stars for autographs.
As Miller and Jackson strolled through the Grand Avenue Mall, shoppers began calling out to the two and approaching them for autographs. That irked a mall security guard who was either unaware, or didn't care, about their star status.
The guard warned the fans to keep quiet and then told the players to leave for "causing a disturbance." The guard then allegedly said to the players, "I have to put up with you guys every single day," the Chicago Sun-Times reported.
When Miller and Jackson refused to leave, the guard said he would call the police. The players opted to stay and sign more autographs. Police arrived shortly after to clear out the crowd.
"If we were two regular guys, we would have been thrown out of the mall and the cops would have believed the security guard," Jackson told the newspaper.
