UPN Cancels `Moesha' After Six Seasons
Jet, June 4, 2001
Singer and actress Brandy Norwood and the cast of "Moesha" won't be returning to UPN for a seventh season this fall.
The network recently canceled the show that launched Brandy's acting career, back in 1996, after six seasons on the air.
The half-hour comedy starred Brandy Norwood as Moesha, Brandy's real-life brother Willie "Ray J" Norwood Jr. as her half-brother Dorian, William Allen Young as her father Frank Mitchell, Sheryl Lee Ralph as her stepmother Dee Mitchell, Marcus T. Paulk as brother Miles Mitchell, Shar Jackson as her friend Niecy, and Lamont Bently as Moesha's pesky neighbor Hakeem.
"Moesha," UPN's second longest-running television series, told the story of the trials and tribulations of a teenage girl in Englewood, CA, growing into adulthood.
From week to week a devoted following of "Moesha" fans were guaranteed entertaining episodes that touched on subjects ranging from friendships and family matters to drug use and premarital sex.
