Soul legend Al Green received the Lifetime Achievement Award. His hits include 1971's Tired Of Being Alone, followed by such classics as Let's Stay Together, I'm Still In Love With You, and Here I Am (Come And Take Me). Green was unable to attend due to a previous engagement.

Other honorees include such veteran performers as Fontella Bass, Big Jay McNeely, Dee Dee Sharp, The Emotions, Sly & the Family Stone, songwriting team Holland/Dozier/Holland, songwriter Allen Toussaint and the late Louis Jordan.

Veteran R&B singer Ruth Brown was instrumental in establishing the Rhythm and Blues Foundation in 1988, which provides emergency medical and other needed financial assistance to R&B music legends of the 1940s, '50s and '60s.
