Raines Honored

Jet, May 31, 1999

Fannie Mae Chairman Franklin Raines, joined by his wife, Wendy Raines (2nd, r), receives congratulations from Elaine R. Jones (r), director-counsel of the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund (LDF), and Mrs. Cecilia Marshall (l), widow of legendary Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall (l), after he received LDF's Equal Justice Award.

Raines, the only Black CEO of a Fortune 500 company, has championed the cause of minority home ownership by making mortgage financing easier to attain. "Under Raines" leadership, Fannie Mae has funded more home mortgages for African-Americans than at any time in Fannie Mae's history," noted Jones.
